Privacy Policy

BC Records and its employees, agents, contractors and independent contractors is committed to ensuring that all personal information is gathered in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and is accurate, confidential and safeguarded. To make certain that this commitment is maintained, the business has established ten Privacy Principles that govern the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.

  1. Principle 1: Accountability
    BC Records is responsible and accountable for personal information under its control. It has designated the Archivist / Records Manager to be responsible for coordinating the business’ compliance with established privacy principles.
  2. Principle 2: Accuracy
    The business maintains personal information as accurate, complete and up to date format as is necessary for the purposes for which it was collected.
  3. Principle 3: Challenge Compliance
    An individual can challenge compliance with these principles to the designated individual responsible for BC Records’ compliance.
  4. Principle 4: Consent
    The individual will be informed and asked for consent for the collection, use or disclosure of personal information, except where permitted by law.
  5. Principle 5: Identifying Purposes
    The purpose for which information is collected will be identified to BC Records, at or before the time information is collected.
  6. Principle 6: Individual’s Right to Access
    Upon request, an individual will be informed of the existence, use and disclosure of his or her personal information and will be given access to that information, within the confines of the law. An individual will be able to challenge the accuracy and completeness of this information and have it amended as appropriate.
  7. Principle 7: Limiting Collection
    The collection of personal information will be limited to that which is necessary for the operational purposes identified by BC Records. Information will be collected by fair and lawful means.
  8. Principle 8: Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention
    Personal information is not used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the informed consent of the individual or as required by law. Personal information will be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of these purposes.
  9. Principle 9: Openness
    BC Records will make readily available to individuals, specific information about its policies and practices related to the management of personal information.
  10. Principle 10: Safeguards
    Personal information is protected by strict security safeguards appropriate to the sensitive nature of the information. BC Records and its employees, agents, contractors and independent contractors will maintain the security of the information in its custody or control by protecting it against such risks as unauthorized access, collection, use, modification, copying, disclosure or disposal and similar risks.
